Five babies die as pertussis cases soar

Five babies in England have died after being diagnosed with pertussis, health officials have said as cases rapidly rise.

More than 2,700 pertussis cases, also known as whooping cough, have been reported across England so far in 2024 – more than three times the number recorded in the whole of last year.
