Women who use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs alongside hormonal contraception could be raising their risk of developing venous thromboembolism, Danish researchers report.
Led by a team at the University of Copenhagen, the observational study identified women using combined oral contraceptives containing third or fourth generation progestins alongside NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, and naproxen, had the greatest risk, while those taking progestin-only tablets, implants and coils had a lesser risk.
