RCP accepts advice to limit PA rollout and promises new guidance on ‘safety and effectiveness’

The Royal College of Physicians will call on NHS England to limit the pace and scale of the rollout of physician associate roles, after it accepted almost all recommendations from a special internal review.

At a meeting last week, the RCP Council accepted 15 out of the 16 recommendations made by a college short life working group (SLWG). But a call to close the PA voluntary register to new members will be voted on by RCP members as the council was unable to reach an agreement on the issue.
